Half this tale has been told to you
A tale of love, pure and true
And after his retreat he found his love
Thanked Allah from the skies above
They celebrated their time on our Earth
Until that day arrived that wretched curse
As tears left his eyes and streamed his face
Death replaced her body’s place
And a pain set in, no man has felt
And before his lord he prayed and knelt
‘Oh Lord! Take me too, I cant win this fight
Allow our souls to reunite”
But no answer or reply came to him,
Until the angel began to sing
The inspiring voice stirred a command
To seek his Layla throughout this land
So on his way he set atrial
With a broken soul and body frail
One decade passed and miles were tread
And still he wished himself for dead
A relief from the pain that had struck his heart
The tears and shivers that do not depart
For everywhere he turned his face
Only pain had taken his Layla’s place
But one night a whisper befell his ear
And woke him as this voice came clear
“Layla! He cried with his pain afresh
The agony reborn within his flesh
She said;
“I have spread myself for you to see
but you have chosen to ignore me
As the sun rises I keep you warm
In every creature I take it’s form
And follow in hope you will recognize
To open your heart, disobey your eyes
When you take your rest by the tree
How can you be unaware of me?
When the stars guide you through the night
Cant you understand you are in my sight
And every beggar with his face despair
Cant you see me in their stare?
When champions ride their horses through
From within the horse, I can see you
And the wind that passes by your skin
I surround you, and your mine within
My breast is the dirt in which you sleep
My lovers company, I sworn to keep
And when you drink the water fresh
I quench the thirst of your tired flesh
I am in everything you feel and see
But you have chosen not to notice me
But do not weep we’ll be together soon
When death embraces my sweet Majnoon
